My Philosophy

“Healing doesn't mean the damage never existed. It means the damage no longer controls our lives.” Anonymous

We are all on our own unique paths on this journey called life. Everyone experiences their own struggles, joy, losses, contentment and love – including love for themselves. While we are instructed by the people, places, situations and things that make up our current lives, we are also influenced by our individual histories. Those significant narratives, experiences or relationships molded how we think and feel, shaping why we do the things we do. It is true that the path we each take may be fraught with obstacles, trauma and challenges, but every journey can also offer gifts of happiness, beauty and wonder. When we run into an obstacle that seems too big to handle, we can ask for help to navigate those frightening, uncertain waters.

My Approach

“Anything that’s human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable. When we can talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting and less scary. The people we trust with that important talk can help us know that we are not alone.” -Fred Rogers (Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood)

As a psychotherapist, I support my clients as they work to understand why they are struggling and identify effective, tailored options that can help them steer through tough times. I foster a safe, non-judgmental space where you can feel comfortable exploring difficult thoughts, feelings and behaviors. In addition to helping you cope with distressing symptoms, circumstances or emotions in the here and now, we will work together to heal the original wounds so you can feel more secure and sail on smoother seas over the long-term. When the next challenge arises, therefore, you will have new and useful tools to help you find relief and healing.

I have extensive training and practical experience in a variety of psychological approaches and settings, and I recognize that every client has different wants, needs and communication patterns. I adapt my approach to provide the individualized support, guidance and healthy alternatives you need to feel safe and empowered. You are the only person who knows what you are going through, and I look to you to help me understand your beliefs, values and what you hope to accomplish through our work together.

In psychotherapy, you can find relief from distressing symptoms and develop coping skills to help you manage daily stress and challenges more confidently and effectively. As you learn practical tools and techniques, we will work together to heal the pain of the past so you don’t continue repeating unhealthy patterns of behavior and relationships. My goal is to help you reach a place where you no longer need therapy. Because we have established an open and trusting connection, you can always feel safe returning to my office if you want or need help addressing a new challenge or reaching a new goal. You don’t ever have to do it alone.
